I'm sure you've watched Soul Train or some snippets of it before. Elements of hiphop, feel good funk, soulful instrumentals are all part of what makes a performance complete. I'm not sure what I told the music artistes about bboy music but it all made sense during the actual performance. I'm talking about live music, stuff we're only beginning to see in Singapore. The showcase won first place by the way, and I'd like to give credit to all who made it possible. Then comes talk of making a 'popsidized' version of the song. I won't be surprised if it all comes out remastered and erm, stuff. Probably won't happen but i'm sure that the essence of performance won't be lost if we went commercial. It all starts from somewhere. By the way, the set I did was a freestyle. Point is, you are free to interpret music in any way you want through dance. Just make sure that you have the fundamentals right or well, sometimes lyrics were meant for something else. Aite put some beats on man, cos this ain't no practise.

The artistes in question are in a position to preserve their public image as they are doing what they do professionally. AZNBBOY understands this and work closely with the artistes themselves to ensure that they receive the best possible coverage. After all, our job is not to take videos of events, our job is to make you guys look good. On and off camera. So we take these into consideration when clips are posted up, when you guys can request for it to be posted up or taken down. The problem with featured footage on AZNBBOY is that we receive too many requests to be featured on the site, although there is limited time to edit every clip frame by frame. Receiving an ever increasing outreach to a global audience where we have visitors from Algiers to Karachi, album and DVD promotion would receive maximum coverage and we are focusing on working closely with organizers and artistes to provide holistic solutions that meet expectations, then exceed them.

SINGAPORE - Radikal Forze, having been around since 1998 will be celebrating their 11th year anniversary come 14th March 2009. The crew, is spearheaded by leader Bboy Felix and the crew has accomplished many achievements both locally and abroad.

This 14 man crew also has overseas chapters from the U.K (Bboy Mouse) and Seoul, South Korea (Bboy Nauty1 and Bogus). Radikal Forze first came in contact with Bboy Mouse when he was the judge for the Singapore bboy championship 2007 and met Nauty1 in Korea for Battle of the year Asia in 2007. Both of them had the same mentality towards the dance, and were very easy to talk to, and very humble, even though they were “beasts” on the dance floor. Both of them had also heard of “RF” prior to meeting the crew in person, and vice versa, which made talking forthe first time seem like they already had been friends for awhile.

After talking and hanging out and getting the chance to dance more together in the very short time that they had, both of them at separate times had requested to be part of the family. And since the two of them had the same mentality for the dance, they became closer as friends with RF, and RF had a discussion about it amongst the crew, and since then have decided to put them down as their international chapters.

This issue about Youtube copyrights brings back all-time issues such as sampling.

Recently i've seen quite a few videos taken down by record companies claiming to own part of the music featured in jams. But the thing is, they are abusing their copyright holder status, damaging the nascent breakdance scene. Music is one of the key elements in bboying, taking away the music is like playing a basketball match without a hoop.

Footage taken down includes unedited footage which happens to capture an audio track that the dj is playing, but I happened to get a claim on the clip :

This video has been identified as featuring Bob James-Farandole without necessary copyright authorization for use on the YouTube site. It is currently disabled.

Most of these videos are coverage of events. It should be covered under Copyright Act Section 37 Fair dealing for purpose of reporting current events, but it seems that i've found out that companies are making boisterous claims. At first I didn't realize how widespread this problem is until notable people in the community started telling me about their videos being taken down.

My personal demo trailer and one of a friend. Dancers use clips like these to keep track of personal progress. I don't suppose they are supposed to produce the soundtrack from scratch if the main content in the clip is the dance? We can see that the video produced in Singapore, is not available in Singapore.

There seems to be no end to this. Perhaps the government can help.

When someone comes up to you with an attitude. You're gonna reply in kind. I'm saying you gotta tell your opponent that you're in it for the positive vibe the whole jam brings. What this takes is encouragement and mutual respect on the floor. Too many times i've seen the cock sign thrown in bad taste and i'm not saying its a bad thing... just that if it ain't you, you ain't keeping it real.

This coming from personal experience.

Floorskillz is an annual bboy competition that showcases Singapore's best bboy talents as well as those from our neighbouring countries since 2003.

In 2006, Floorskillz will be facilitating bboy workshops, specially catered for those who are interested in art of bboying and those who have started but do not know where or who to go to. 2 trial bboy workshops will be held on the 25th and 26h of November 2005 at the Orchard Youth Park for everyone to give it a try.

What Earns A Bboy The Respect He Is Shown?

Ever since I started bboying in late 2003, I often wondered, what earns a bboy the respect others show him? Does he have to have dope power moves? dope footwork? killer freezes, maybe? I never quite figured this one out.

In my opinion, a bboy should master the moves he wanna use, till he can do it like he's walking; i.e. with flow and ease. People would respect him for his moves. However, would they respect him if he's got the moves, but is stuckup about it? Or what if he uses his moves to boost his ego at others' expense, for example by mocking noobs? Should he be shown the respect for his moves if he does that?

At the same time, if he doesnt have his moves down cold, but he's a friendly fella, nice towards his fellow men, loves bboying and keeps practising, should he be shown the same amount of respect too?

In my opinion, whether a bboy has his moves down cold or not doesnt really matter. One can always keep practising, and sooner or later the moves will come. So long as he keeps practising it right and doesn't give up. It's not so much the moves that make the bboy, it's the character.
